Virtual Summer 2020

About Virtual Summer 2020

Picture
Since 1977, the mission of the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival has been to provide an outstanding educational theater experience for the students of the Greater Hartford area. Although these are unique and unprecedented times we want to ensure that mission is upheld for a 44th season. This summer, we embrace a new format, and offer a fun, flexible, and FREE virtual education experience for the students of the Greater Hartford area.

Registered students will engage in “pick and choose” virtual classes, focusing on various aspects of the musical theater genre, while creating content to share with other participants and our industry professionals.  YOU decide your level of involvement, and what you want to work on.  The entire experience will culminate in a virtual performance, featuring pieces that we would never be able to tackle if we were doing a complete show from beginning to end.

Always wanted to join us at WHSAF but not had the time?  Been worried about the money?  This is your chance to get to know our amazing staff, our talented performers, and see why WHSAF is the gold standard - all at your own level of involvement, and all FOR FREE!

We can’t wait to meet you!  We’ve got magic to do!

Video Submission Guidelines

  1. Videos should be no more than 2 minutes for each discipline.  You can send these as separate links or one long video.  You don’t need to send all three - if you want to focus on just one or two that’s cool!
  2. Videos should be uploaded to a private youtube link, and then shared with us via the submission portal on our website. (www.westhartfordsaf.com)
  3. Submission deadline is Friday, July 10th.

Tips For Filming Vocals/Acting

Tips For Filming Dance

  1. Record at eye height - you can back up from the camera so we can see more of your body, but please don’t be looking down at a camera.
  2. Check your lighting - your light source should be in front of you, not behind.  Natural lighting is actually beautiful and best!
  3. Do a test run of sound - you don’t need a fancy mic, but figuring out how close to be to your mic goes a long way toward creating a great video.  You don’t need to be on top of your device.  Record in a room that has some hard surfaces, but not a bathroom like space where the reverb will drown you out.
  1. The video needs to show you dancing alone in any style you feel shows your best light.
  2. Make sure your clothes are not the same color as your backdrop.
  3. Make sure we can see your feet
