Internship Basics
To enrich the educational opportunities presented through the WHSAF program, we are pleased to announce a limited number of internship opportunities for our Summer 2024 season.
These internships are designed to give students interested in aspects of theater arts the opportunity to work alongside professionals in the field to learn and grow in their area of choice.
Internships will be available in the following disciplines this summer: Education (2), Production, Costuming/Costume Shop Management (2+), Stage Management (2+), and other potential customizable opportunities. See specifics for details on these opportunities.
Applicants must have at least ONE YEAR of experience with the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival OR permission of the production team.
All applicants must complete the following steps:

- Provide a letter of intent explaining your interest in the position.
- Provide a letter of reference.

Education (2)
- Individuals in this position must be cast members in the SAF Sr. Show
- This internship involves assisting with the SAF Mini one-week sessions.
- Responsibilities include facilitating the creation of crafts and materials, assisting with one-on-one instruction, running of games and warmups, leading of movement, and general production assistance to the camp director.
- Attendance is required each day of the session from 30 minutes before the start of camp to 30 minutes after.
- Applicant must have access to their own transportation.
- Applicants are invited to apply for one or both sessions. Session 1: 6/24-6/28 Session 2: 7/29-8/2
- Internship Stipend: $250 SAF Sr. tuition credit for each session.
Production
- Individuals in this position must be cast members in the SAF Sr. Show
- This internship involves assisting with front-of-house, program development, assisting the production manager in coordinating between front and back of house, and other duties as assigned.
- Requirements: laptop access, proficiency with Microsoft programs, strong communication skills, excellent grammar, spelling, usage skills.
- Internship Stipend: $100 SAF Sr. tuition credit
Costuming (2+)
- Individuals in this position may or may not be cast members in the SAF Sr. Show
- This internship involves assisting with the organization and management of costumes for the production, including assisting in measurements, cleaning and storage of costumes, and other duties as assigned by costume designer.
- This position also includes work involved in reorganizing the Hall High School costume room.
- Requirements: Experience/interest in costuming, strong organizational skills, daytime availability with advanced notice, and the ability to self-start and take initiative. Access to own transportation a bonus.
- Internship Stipend: $100 SAF Sr. tuition credit for cast members
Stage Management (2+)
- Individuals applying for Stage Manager may NOT be cast members in the SAF Sr. show.
- Individuals applying for Assistant Stage Management MAY be cast members in the SAF Sr. show.
- This internship involves the stage management of the summer production of The Little Mermaid
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to implementation of schedules as determined by production team, recording notes on all production aspects (blocking, dance, music, etc), facilitate communication between all creative and technical departments, call all technical cues during performances, and other duties.
- Requirements: Some daytime availability, previous experience, excellent communication and organization skills, working knowledge of all aspects of theater production.
